Professional licensure disclosure is a regulation of the U.S. Department of Education requiring all colleges and universities to communicate publicly and directly to prospective and current students about (1) Professional Licensure Programs that will or will not fulfill educational requirements for a specific professional licensure that is required for employment in that field; and (2) Professional Licensure Programs that meet or do not meet the education requirements for licensure for each state within the United States, the United States Territories*, and the District of Columbia (referred to as “State” regarding licensure disclosure) regardless of the delivery mode (face-to-face, blended, online) of the program.
A Professional Licensure Program (PLP) is a program offered at Greenville Technical College (GTC) designed, marketed, and/or advertised to meet educational and accreditation requirements for a specific license or certification required for employment in a field. Each State may have different professional licensure and certification requirements. PLP at GTC are designed to meet the requirements for licensure/certifications required for employment in an occupation within the state of South Carolina. Some programs may also meet the requirements of other States. Many licensure boards require more than successful program completion to obtain a license/certification. Other requirements may include professional examinations, background checks, years of work experience, fingerprinting, etc. Therefore, each State’s licensing board makes the ultimate decision as to whether an individual is eligible for licensure at the time the individual submits their application for licensure.
Greenville Technical College makes every effort to ensure that the information about educational and accreditation requirements for licensure or certification is current; however, State requirements may change. Licensure, certification, and accreditation information is reviewed and updated on this site no later than July 1st of each year or as needed. While a program may initially meet the educational and accreditation requirements for licensure and certification in another State, changes in requirements could impact the program's ability to continue meeting a State’s new requirements. In this case, students affected will be directly notified within 14 days of determining the change. Students considering enrolling in a PLP or course that may lead to a professional license or certification are strongly encouraged to check State-specific information and contact the appropriate licensing agency to seek information and additional guidance before enrolling.
In an effort to determine the location of prospective and current students enrolled at GTC, the following apply:
If the PLP in which the student is seeking enrollment does not meet the educational and/or accreditation requirements for the State in which the student is located, the college will not allow enrollment in that PLP. However, if the student plans to seek employment in a State in which the PLP does meet the educational and accreditation requirements, the student must attest to that by completing the Licensure Disclosure Attestation Form.
